I strongly believe that the future of Internet is 3D and that virtual worlds like Second Life will soon replace traditional web browsing. In this demo I show how motion capture technology can help users to better express themselves in Virtual Worlds by translating their real life body movements onto a Second Life avatar. This translation is pretty accurate and can happen in real time. The motion capture equipment we use is currently very expensive, but with prices decreasing it will essentially replace keyboards, mouses and game consoles for the majority of the tasks we do online. To make the avatar move, I have developed a software package that can read the positions and rotations of each of the sensors in real time and then map those onto the avatar joints in Second Life.
